Wondering about Reiki?
In the spring of 1993 I was a massage therapist seeing clients at my office. I had recently noted that sometimes I placed my hands in what seemed to be particular positions on their body. I wondered about this, as there seemed to be a hot feeling under my hands. One day while meditating, I asked Spirit what the hand positions had to do with anything and if I could learn more about how to serve people. I saw an image in my head of a blue book with hands on it and a light around them. I heard within "find this book on the third shelf in the bookstore." I can't remember having such specific directions before and it seemed that I couldn't ignore. So by afternoon I got in my car and drove to downtown Madison. The first bookstore that I went to indeed had a blue book with hands and a light round them and it WAS on the third shelf. As I paged through it I saw the positions in which I had been laying my hands on my clients. I was awed. The name of the practice, which it revealed, was Reiki. Paging thru to the back I saw that it was written by William Lee Rand and with the phone number I could be in contact with the International Reiki Center. I wasted no time to request for a Reiki Master Teacher to come to my area and vowed I would get people to attend. It all manifested and I knew that Spirit had been the director to help me find this new tool to assist people's healing.
That was years ago and by November 1993 I had taken all the levels of Reiki and was practicing it with many clients. Later, I began teaching others to become Reiki Practitioners and later, Reiki Master-Teachers.
There are many books written about Reiki now and the symbols are published in many books and on the Internet. These symbols are activated by transmission from someone who is a Reiki Master Teacher and have been passed down through the lines since Dr. Usui gave them to his first student.
What is important to realize is that Reiki is Ki or "life energy" guided directly by a Higher Power which some of us call God, Absolute, Divine Power, Great Spirit, Universal Mind, etc. Because Reiki is guided by a higher power, it knows exactly what to do to help the person heal and it knows where any negative energies exist within the persons energy system…. therefore, it can move through these areas without the practitioner engaging his/her energy to make something happen. This is the absolute beauty of Reiki; it raises the vibration with a client so that negative energies are released.
I have noted that Reiki nurtures the body and its organs an can bring them back into healthy functioning. On a deeper level Reiki can and sometimes does reprogram the person's subconscious mind, releasing negative thoughts, memories, and feelings. I believe that it rebalances the body, mind, emotions and spirit to vibrate to the individual's Soul.
Reiki cannot cause harm because it is guided by a higher power and it always, always works for the positive benefit of my client.
Reiki doesn't require special abilities and is easy to learn. My students remark that Reiki, though it isn't a religion, it indeed guides and invites them to grow spiritually. I believe that Reiki is a journey from the Head; through the Heart into the Abdominal Center of Emotion and that it always balances and aligns.
